It’s hard to visualize one million but perhaps this will help. You know how long one foot is. It is twelve inches and do you know how long you have to be cooped up in a car to travel 189 miles, approximately four hours? 189 miles equals one million feet.

Or, in metric: You know how long one centimeter is – about the width of a typical finger. Ten kilometers is a million centimeters. Can you imagine walking along a line of a million side-by-side fingers?

When you look at a very large maple tree, you’re seeing approximately 200,000 leaves. So, five large maples would contain a million leaves.

A stack of a million one-dollar bills would be as tall as a 32-story building.

If you were to stack a million dollars worth of $100 bills, it would be much more practical, being only 43 inches tall – just a bit over one meter. The weight would only be 22.05 pounds, or 10 kilograms. If it were one-dollar bills, the weight would be 2,200 pounds, just over one ton.

A million euro notes would be a little taller, equivalent to a 48-story building.
