If you have woodworking skills, you’re all set to start a business. All you need is an idea for something you can make quickly that the public would like to buy.

Unique clothing buttons, desk toys, children’s toys, high-end ballpoint pens, and similar small objects come to mind.

Using rare and beautiful woods is a big plus.

Ordinary plywood can be made into interesting objects. For instance, I once cut a 42-inch disk from a piece of thick plywood. With a router, I carved a chess set into the middle by cutting alternate squares down through the top layer. The squares underneath were darker. I then covered the whole thing in a thick layer of clear resin. The thick resin-coated concept is a very 1970s art style, but it could make a great comeback.

I’m sure smaller objects could be carved from plywood, showcasing it’s unique laminated look as well.
